Italian, English, and both (Posted on 2017-02-22) Difficulty: 4 of 5
While vacationing in Italy, I've searched for words that complete the alphametic focene + tivoli = ?
in such a way the solution is unique.

I've found:
sconto (Italian), action (English) and native
(both Italian and English).

Which of those three words produces the highest sum of digits?

(i) focene+tivoli=sconto
    solves as:
    380646+527812=908458
    with (c,e,f,i,l,n,o,s,t,v) = (0,6,3,2,1,4,8,9,5,7)
   Then, s+c+o+n+t+o = 9+0+8+4+5+8 = 34

(ii) focene+tivoli= action
     solves as:
    164202+783658=947860
    with (a,c,e,f,i,l,n,o,t,v) = (9,4,2,1,8,5,0,6,7,3)
    Then, a+c+t+i+o+n= 9+4+7+8+6+0= 34

(iii) focene+tivoli= native
       solves as
       826797+104250=931047
        with (a,c,e,f,i,l,n,o,t,v) = (3,6,7,8,0,5,9,2,1,4)
      Then, n+a+t+i+v+e = 9+3+1+0+4+7 = 24

Consequently,  each of 'sconto' and 'action' produces 34, being the highest sum of digits.
