Also, just to avoid any confusion, it should be noted that log(x) does not generally refer to the natural logarithm, base e, but to the common logarithm, base 10, (except in advanced level mathematics texts, and then only rarely).
In general, the convention is:
log(x) is base 10
ln(x) is base e
lg(x) is base 2
logb(x) or logb(x) has some base b
