I started with a similar approach, but took a different method partway.
Lets jump to (y^2-6y-1) = 0. Instead of hitting it with the quadratic formula, instead go back to "Find: y^2 - 6y"
Rewrite y^2-6y into (y^2-6y-1)+1. Then substitute (y^2-6y-1) = 0
to make y^2-6y = 1.
