Without direct evaluation, or using a calculator, determine which of these is larger:
(1+√5)/2 vs loge4

since 5>4 we know sqrt(5)>2 and so 
(1+sqrt(5))/2 > (1+2)/2 = 3/2

next: we know e>2.7, so

e > 2.56 = 256/100 = 64/25
e^(3/2) > (64/25)^(3/2) = 512/125 > 500/125 = 4
e^(3/2) > 4
ln(4) < 3/2

So

(1+√5)/2 > 3/2 > loge4
