I never said 1 and -1 are roots.  They are not among the 20th roots of -1.

But then I took another look and compared the two plots for z^20+1 and the given equation, and they don't line up, so my hypothesis is wrong.

I'd like to ask Danish for a hint but he effectively never comments on anything here.
