Square Temperatures (Posted on 2016-06-29) Difficulty: 3 of 5
Each of M+N and M-N is a nonzero perfect square and:

Mo Celsius= No Fahrenheit

Find the smallest value of M+N. What is the next smallest value of M+N?

*** F = 9*C/5 + 32, where F and C respectively represents Fahrenheit and Celsius scales of temperatures.

Prima facie, the problem text is itself erroneous.

It should read as:

"Each of M+N and N-M is a nonzero perfect square and:

Mo Celsius= No Fahrenheit

Find the smallest value of M+N. What is the next smallest value of M+N?br>

*** F = 9*C/5 + 32, where F and C respectively represents Fahrenheit and Celsius scales of temperatures.

The smallest value of M+N is 144. The next smallest value is 1936.

For an explanation, refer to the solution submitted by Charlie in this location.
