Puzzle Calendar (Posted on 2016-05-09) Difficulty: 2 of 5
I have a puzzle calendar with a page for every weekday plus one page covering each Saturday/Sunday pair. It has a puzzle on every page, so that most weeks I get six puzzles. If I get a revised version of this calendar year after year there are occasions, when a year ends on a Saturday, that I'll get a puzzle for Saturday on the old calendar and one for Sunday on the new calendar.

How many puzzles will I see in a typical year? What are the exceptions to this, depending on leap year or the day of the week the year starts?

Fifty-two full weeks will contain 52*6 = 312 pages, with the same number of puzzles.

Non-leap years begin and end on the same day of the week. They have one more day than a full 52 weeks, and as to be expected, will have 313 pages/puzzles:

Sat - Sat: 312 for Sat - Fri plus 1 for Sat
Sun - Sun: 1 for Sun plus 312 for Mon - Sun
Mon - Mon: 312 for Mon - Sun plus 1 for Mon
Tue - Tue: 312 for Mon - Sun plus 1 for Tue
Wed - Wed: 312 for Mon - Sun plus 1 for Wed
Thu - Thu: 312 for Mon - Sun plus 1 for Thu
Fri - Fri: 312 for Mon - Sun plus 1 for Fri

Leap years have two extra days:

Sat - Sun: 312 for Sat - Fri plus 1 for Sat/Sun = 313
Sun - Mon: 312 for Mon - Sun plus 1 for initial Sun plus 1 for final Mon = 314
Mon - Tue: 312 for Mon - Sun plus 2 for Mon and Tue = 314
Tue - Wed: 312 for Tue - Mon plus 2 for Tue and Wed = 314
Wed - Thu: 312 for Wed - Tue plus 2 for Wed and Thu = 314
Thu - Fri: 312 for Thu - Wed plus 2 for Thu and Fri = 314
Fri - Sat: 312 for Fri - Thu plus 2 for Fri and Sat = 314
