Two Plus Two Equals Five (Posted on 2022-11-29) Difficulty: 1 of 5

Solution: (Hide)
First Method
We observe that:
(4-4.5)^2 = (4.5-4)^2 = 0.25
or, (4-4.5)2 = (4.5-4)2
or, 4-4.5 = 5- 4.5 (taking the square root)
or, 4 = 5(adding 4.5 to both the sides)
or, 2+2 = 5

Second Method
We observe that:
16-16= 20-20 =0
or, 4(4-4) = 5(4-4)
or, 4=5, [cancelling out the expression (4-4)]
or, 2+2=5

Charlie 's submitted solution is almost identical to the second method.
