He was able to smoke six. This is because he found 25 stubs to smoke 5 cigars, then with the five stubs that he just smoked, he was able to make another. Bonus point. Technically, he can only smoke 4 cigars. But if you allow Carlie to rely on his friend Tight Toby, he can smoke 5. He smokes the first 4 from his 20 stubs and has 4 stubs remaining. He then finds Toby who lends him one of the stubs he's found today. Charlie uses this stub to make his 4 remaining stubs a viable cigar. He smokes this and returns the left over stub back to Toby. He has now smoked 5 cigars after starting with 20 stubs. Also Tight Toby hasn't lost out at all.
