MALI and NIGER are two African countries that share a border.
Now, we observe that:
MALI +(NIGER-I)
= MALI+NGER
=MALINGER

From Merriam-Webster Dictionary, we find that "malinger" is a regular English word which means "to pretend or to exaggerate incapacity or illness."
The verb "malinger" comes from French word "malingre" meaning "sickly".
