Termite Termination Travail (Posted on 2022-05-18) Difficulty: 2 of 5
Ryan bought some termites and put them in a suitably ventilated jar. He gave them some leaves to eat that contained important elements that termites need to live on.
After some days he noticed that many were dying. Ryan was very sad.
Can you help him by telling him what was wrong with his termites?

maybe many reasons? | Comment 2 of 5 |
Water is my choice for an answer.

Leaves are not their normal diet; they eat wood and microorganisms in their gut digest the cellulose.  Of course leaves have some cellulose too.
They don't like light, and a jar full of leaves is probably not dark enough for them.  But I don't think light alone would kill them.

Water is also something they need.  They generally have access in their colonies which are either underground or in some climates in above ground termite mounds.  But there is only a little water in the leaves.
