Given the following:
  1. Painting #1 is not in oils.
  2. Painting #2 shows Art either hang gliding or on a motorcycle.
  3. The painting of Art next to a windmill is done either in acrylics or tempera paints.
  4. Art's hang gliding picture and the one done in tempera paints are in different rows.
  5. The painting of Art surfing (which is not done in acrylics) is above the watercolor.
Find out what each painting depicts the medium Art used to paint each.

I came up with the correct solution as posted.  But the only way I did it was to read clue 5 as "directly above", which by the clues sentence structure does not necessarily have to be.  Looking at the authors solution he seems to have made the same conclusion. 

Did I miss a clue that proves it in a different way?  To me above could just mean 'in the row higher than', or am I wrong in that thinking?  Good puzzle.  Am i just nitpicking, or am I correct.
