Bugs and Cubs II (Posted on 2022-10-07) Difficulty: 4 of 5
This is in continuation of Bugs and Cubs.

Twelve prehistoric creatures have been encoded according to the following rule:

u = a e i o u
b = b d f h k l t
c = c m n r s v w
g = g j p q y

So, for example cuccubb would represent mammoth, and bubucbuc would represent kelenken.

Can you solve these?

  1. bcucucubugc
  2. cugubugcugbuc
  3. ubbucuucuc
  4. cubucucugbuc
  5. bugbubucuc
  6. cubugubu
  7. gbucucubuc
  8. bgcuccucuucuc
  9. cbugucuucuc
  10. cucubucuucuc
  11. cugububuc
  12. ccububuc

Through the generous hints, and this nice website about dinosaurs (where as many as 755 are listed - who knew?), I was able (after adding in one shark) to get the results below.

So, my solution is:

 1.  TRICERATOPS

 2.  MEGA (lo-) RAPTOR

 3.  ALLOSAURUS or ATLASAURUS

 4.  VELOCIRAPTOR

 5.  DIPLODOCUS

 6.  CITIPATI

 7.  PTERANODON

 8.  TYRANNOSAURUS

 9.  STEGOSAURUS

 10. CERATOSAURUS

 11. MEGALODON

 12. SMILODON

Number 2 (13 letters long) still

gave me trouble.

The beginning fits with megalo and the end fits with raptor.

While there exists a "megaraptor", I couldn't find a megaloraptor listed anywhere.

Maybe there is a different megalo beast I do not know of,

or maybe the letters "bug" in the clue #2 should be left out...

Here is the run of the code:
