A + NA + UNA + LUNA = 2022
How quickly can you solve the abovementioned
alphametic using only p&p and a simple, non-scientific calculator?
To get a 2 in the last position requires A to be 3 or 8 as 4*3=12 or 4*8=32.
The former requires that 3*N end in 1; the latter that 3*N end in 9, so as to combine with the carry of 1 or 3 to produce 2. N should be 7 or 3 respectively.
38*3+8 = 122 ane 73*3+3 = 222, leaving LU + U as being required to add to 19 or 18. The former can't be the case as the sum must be even.
73 does work out for NA, with LU+U being 14 + 4 = 18.
So 3 + 73 + 473 + 1473 = 2022.
