Alphabetic Order (Posted on 2024-01-13) Difficulty: 3 of 5
Imagine that all the names of the integers were written down on a huge list and alphabetized.

Assume that hyphens and blanks are ignored in alphabetizing, so that FOUR THOUSAND would come later than FOURTEEN.

For example, 1100 would be written as one thousand one hundred. Writing it as eleven hundred is NOT allowed.

What would be the first 5 numbers and the last 5 numbers on the list?

First five:

Eight, Eight Billion, Eight Billion Eight, Eight Billion Eighteen, Eight Billion Eight Million

I started revising using "and", but I think the same sequence arises.

Last five:

There can't actually be the last, next-to-last, etc. numbers in an infinite sequence.  The best we can do is the first five in reverse alphabetic order.

Zero, Two, Two vigintillion, Two vigintillion two, Two vigintillion two thousand
