Boston to London voyage (Posted on 2024-01-29) Difficulty: 1 of 5
Every day at noon a ship leaves Boston for London and another one leaves London for Boston. The travel takes exactly 7 days (168 hours) each way. John plans to travel to London next Sunday. How many ships coming from London will John see during his trip?

Solution It depends (spoiler) | Comment 1 of 2
John will see 1 ship every 12 hours.  If the ship from London leaves at noon London time and the ship from Boston leaves at noon Boston time, then he will see 14 ships.

If the both leave at noon Boston time, or they both leave at noon London time, then he will see a ship just as he leaves and one just as he arrives, so 15 ships.
