Define:
d/dx(f(x)) = f'(x)

where f'(x) = gradient (or slope) of f(x) at x = x.

Prove that:
d/dx(x^2) = 2x

without using calculus.

It looks like Cheradenine's use of terms from calculus is throwing everone off.

Suppose that instead, he simply asked:

"Without using calculus, can you prove that the line tangent to the graph of y = x² at any point (n, n²) has a slope of 2n?"

Of course, that might be giving away more that C9 wanted to.
