More Bird Watching (Posted on 2004-06-02) Difficulty: 3 of 5
There are 60 birds on a telephone wire and you get bored of bird watching and decide to hunt them.

No bird is colored other than red, yellow, or blue, although some birds may have more than one color.

You start off by shooting 1/2 the birds with red on them, followed by 3/4 of the birds with blue that remain. Then you shoot 1/4 of the birds with yellow that remain, and finally you shoot half of the birds with red that remain.

How many are left?

If all the birds were deaf...and dumb... | Comment 12 of 15 |
Considering the fact that all number of birds must be positive integers, the greatest number of birds left would be 41, starting with 4 red birds, 52 yellow birds, and 4 bluebirds, heh...The least number would be 3, which would occur when you have 56 total red birds, 32 total blue birds, and 8 total yellow birds in any combination totalling 60, making sure to shoot them accordingly...
