Essay Final (Posted on 2005-04-08) Difficulty: 3 of 5
One of my teachers gives his students essay finals. First, he tells us three numbers, A, B, and C. He gives us A essay questions to study before the test. He picks B essay questions to put on the test, and we must pick out C of them to answer. He tells us to study A-B+C of the given questions if we want to pass the final.

As a procrastinator, I only studied the night before. Luckily, some other students had taken the test a day early, and could tell me which of the questions the teacher had picked. Of course, the teacher would pick a different combination of questions to give to the rest of the students. After hearing which questions were given, I realized I needed to study N less questions than was necessary before!

Find N, generalizing to all possible A, B, and C.

I have read through their suggestions.  I find out that they have the same perception as you.  However, I look from another point of view when I tackle this question & my perception is so much different from you so much so it always turns up to me to be that there are a number of possible assumptions behind the question appear in my head.  It appears to me to be that there could be more than one possible answer with different assumptions.  You are looking at one angle with your perception & your desciption.  However, I am look at another angle with my perception & description.  It does not matter.  I too accept & respect your comment & opinion from your point of view.  Thanks for your contribution.  I respect your contribution & suggestion.  I too enjoy the fun in tackling other puzzles that you contribute.  No argument but to meet more friends to join in the puzzles.  I enjoy talking with you.  Thanks.
