Kings and lords and Christians raised them
Since they stand for higher powers
Yet few of them would stand, I'm certain,
If women ruled this world of ours.

   Women have fought throughout history!  Queen Boudica in the Celtic army.  The emergency supply of Spartan house wives equipped with armour and swords!  Come on now people!

 

I stick with phallic symbols as my answer.  Look at the steeples of churches--they represent power.  More money = more power in our non-utopian world!  (knowledge is high on that power list too!)

  Women, on the other hand, would use something else to represent higher powers--like the miracle of fertility represented from the magics of woman.  Right now all that comes to mind is the Pagan egg thing--but that was in a culture where women had much power.
