Millenium problem (Posted on 2006-08-21) Difficulty: 1 of 5
Write the number 1000 as an arithmetic expression, i.e. using only digits and the symbols
+ - * /
such that exactly nine 9's and no other digits show up.

My big Random House Dictionary of the English Language, Second Edition, shows only millennium with no alternate spelliing of millenium. There are lots of ignorant people in New York, even some who are extremely intelligent, I'm sure, but nevertheless ignorant.  Thus it is no surprise that there would be a Millenium Hilton.  And after all, there is a person named Paris Hilton, so you can see that being named as a Hilton does not serve as some kind of guarantee of appropriateness!
