The following array of "*
's" 'masks' four three letter words which are to be read in the usual practice of left to right, and top down.
here are some considerations.
1. Letter frequency is not restricted.
2. When all places are filled, all letters are rotated
one place (direction is immaterial) around the square. At that point you must still have four three letter words.
3. Common English words are preferred.
(Words borrowed from other languages are acceptable, but try to limit words rarely found in English.)

Thanks for your clarifications. I have found that not infrequently the proposer here never replies to posts, to present his intention or solutions. In this case, Charlie has presented scores of solutions which seem to pose no problem for the rules.
I also was uncertain about the "borrowed from other languages" italicized condition, since most of English is ultimately derived from other languages. Clearly a direct quotation (e.g. "plus ša change...") would not be allowed, but others may have passed into normal English speech (c'est la vie!). Gesundheit!
