Ah!  When I was responding to Jer I found myself locked into the attributes of the <span> ...... </span> segment which I had copied from the Page Source.  I had to edit using View Source so as to resume with the opening font characteristics of my reply.

Maybe, in hindsight, a better way may have been to create the comment and then paste the Page Source segment (unsure however if doing that would have forced what followed that segment to acquire the segment characteristics).

While I don't recall exactly what I did the above offers some explanation as to why that comment was 'corrupted' for you.
