If the sum of 19968 and 22235 is expressed as 0063, and the product of 20108 and 19977 as 0362, then how would the difference between 20845 and 20116 be rendered?

The appropriate unicodes for the Chinese numerals are at:
http://www.unicode.org/charts/PDF/Unicode-4.1/U41-4E00.pdf

They are in Hex:
  1  4E00  [19968]    2  4E8C [20108]     3  4E09 [19977]
  4  56DB [22235]    5  4E94  [20116]     6  516D [20845]
  7  4E03  [19971]    8  516B  [20843]     9  4E5D [20061]
10  5341  [21313]

So I return to my opening comment and copy across with the added digits [x] from the table above:
   Add                            Mult                       Subt
19968       [1]                   20108      [2]          20845    [6]
22235       [4]                   19977      [3]          20116    [5]
42203    0063         401697516   0362               729      ??

From the above table I seem to be told that 6 - 5 = 1

The Ascii for "1" is 49.
To be consistent with the formatting this should read as 0049.

The 0362 translates to hex 016A which is a U with a 'minus' symbol above it.

Um??  I've been trying to reconcile the result of each operation against the "rendered" value.  Seems that is a definite "red herring".

I cannot reconcile the 0063 which represents “?” but the result of that operation should be “5” or 0053.

 Um?
