Sport Surmise (Posted on 2014-12-29) Difficulty: 3 of 5
Each of the following contains a popular North American sport and a famous North American sportperson associated with it. Each of these have been encrypted by means of a simple substitution cipher.

Identify the sports and the respective sportspersons.

(I) Sport: Kingdoor
Sportsperson: Was Judger

(II) Sport: Beckondwell
Sportsperson: Class Great

(III) Sport: Butonly
Sportsperson: Talks Metres

(IV) Sport: Waited
Sportsperson: Onceyou Markstory

*** The codes corresponding to any two of the four parts may or may not differ. However, the codes corresponding to a given part (Sport and Sportsperson) are the same.

Jim Thorpe for Lacrosse was my guess, too.  Jim Thorpe was known for being an all-around sportsman, and is known to have played lacrosse, even making a top-ten list as a Lacrosse legend, but he isn't really noted for the sport.  I did arrive at the name due to a guess at the last name Thorpe, having found that that surname is associated with the sport, i.e., Regy Thorpe. Except for the first name, Regy Thorpe also fit the sportsperson clue - Was Judger - by having been a player-coach.
