Click on "Student" (or whatever you're on) and see what you have to do to become a higher rank.
It says under Apprentice, "A Student is promoted to Apprentice if they have posted at least 11 comments, and had at least three problems that were approved for display on the site...."
So even though you have pending problems, they still have to be approved to the site.
