i forgot to mention the CENTERS of the balls as the vertices of the imaginary tetrahedron.
(it's true that one could pick any point of the balls to create the tetrahedron but the centers just came naturally to me.
i still stand by my answer that based on the formula for the height of a tetrahedron (1/3 x sqrt6 x d), our stack is twice that formula plus d again.
