Argentine, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic and Equator competed at the Olympic Games, placing first through fifth in an event. They said:
Argentine: "I was not last."
Brazil: "Canada got the bronze."
Canada: "Argentine ended behind Equator."
Dominican Republic: "Equator got silver."
Equator: "Dominican Republic didn't get gold."
The gold and silver winners lied, but the other three told the truth. How did the event end?
(In reply to
Columbia or Canada? by Katie Edwards)
Wow! No, I definitely didn't notice that. I just assumed the ABCDE trend, and didn't notice the Columbia / Canada thing.
Frederico - could you please confirm Katie's observations? Was it intentional?
Based on that I agree with your solution. At first I was skeptical that we could know if Canada told the truth or not. But since it says "The gold and silver winners lied, but the other three told the truth" and not "the 3rd, 4th, and 5th place countries told the truth," then yes, Canada was telling the truth.
Way to go Katie!
