Re: Solution, clarified | Comment 6 of 18 |

I commend tomarken for coming up with his solution.

I was at a loss as to how to determine the the word or message hidden in the text. As I took it that the solution could not be a simple standard cyphertext (caesar, monoalphabetic, diagraphic, skytale, playfair) due to the fact that the message contained almost complete sentences , I guessed it might be a clever polyalphabetic cipher of a more complex nature than a simple Vigenère, but that seemed unlikely with the given title. As I enjoy clever cryptic crossword clues, and as the text was written like it could be one, I tried to tackle it in that manner even though the category was Cryptography and not Words....

As I kept coming up with no likely answer, I am glad now that tomarken came up with his solution. I see now the "Devils in my stomach" could be a play on words of a sort. The "devils" being the extra letters in the "stomach" of word pairs, ie., between the alternating beginning and ending letters (or to the end of each word punctuation symbol).
