What do these have in common?

CLE, SAL, LED, PA, VAL, WS, CY, HS, WER

Some Thoughts the only things I notice... | Comment 1 of 7
... are that the letters can be at the endings of words as in UNCLE, UNIVERSAL, SCALED, SPA, INTERVAL, NEWS, PATHS and ANSWER.  Looking for something in addition, some can be reversed to form word beginnings asn in REWARD, SHOULD, YCLEPT, SWEAR, LAVA, APPLE and DELETE.  However for the first two we have to go to geographic features: LAS VEGAS and EL CAPITAN.
