What is the next number in this sequence?

1, 4, 9, 16, 25, pi

The sequence is not arbitrary. Create a mathematical function that generates this sequence.

Things that make you go hmmmmmmmm...

ok another observation is that each of the numbers listed (not pi) make up the first 7 numbers after the decimal point of pi, only scrambled to resemble a series of squares
3. 1 4 1 5 9 2 6
extending pi a few places,
3. 1 4 1 5 9 2 6 5 3 5 8 9... you don't another 6 to make 36 for about another 8 places

this one really has me stumped because it's in "Word problems" yet we're asked to create a mathematical function

At first thought it had something to do with cooking, like 6 squares = 36 which if multiplied by 10 equals 360 which equals a pi(e) but maybe I'm grasping at straws here...
