Laddergrams 2 (Posted on 2010-06-15) Difficulty: 4 of 5
"Word Ladders" change one letter at a time at each step while maintaining the exact order of letters of the previous word:

B I G
B I T
B A T
C A T

In Laddergrams these were the rules:

At every step only one letter may be changed.
Once changed you have to keep that letter.
All letters from the previous word must occupy a new position, in effect we create an anagrammed proper word of those letters but with one replaced.

S P A N
P A N T
T R A P
R A T E
T I E R
Note that, in the above, A and T each occupy the same positions in more than one word.

New rule!
No letter may ever occupy a position it has already occupied.

Your task is to change PANT into currency.
PANT
YYYY
YYYY
YYYY
YYYY

Having done that, are you able to create such a ladder of your own?

PANT
TSAN - archaic Greek letter: Pamphylian digamma
ALTS - notes or tones in the alt octave
ITSY - small (most often compounded with bitsy)
SYLI - a monetary unit of Guinea (1971 to
1985), currently replaced by the franc

Most of the words in this chain are uncommon/rare, yet it would otherwise be near impossible to get from PANT to SYLI if they were disallowed.
