Given Macbeth:
acb =[M]acb[eth]
aml = [H]aml[et]
emp =[T]emp[est]
ymb= [C]ymb[eline]
It seems the rule might be: crop the initial and take the next three letters of the title.
But then:
llo = [Oth][e]llo (last syllable)
ssi = [Troilus and Cre]ssi[da] (penultimate syllable)
cle = [Peri]cle[s, Prince of Tyre] (third syllable)
rro = [The Comedy of E]rro[rs] (first 3 letters of last syllable)
bou = either [Love's La]bou[rs Lost] (first 3 letters of penultimate syllable) or [Much Ado A]bou[t Nothing] (first 3 lower-case letters of penultimate word).
nds = [All's well that E]nds [Well] (first 3 lower-case letters of penultimate word), or [The Merry Wives of Wi]nds[or] (second three letters of penultimate syllable)
The last two examples in particular seem to contradict the claim of well definition, since the alternatives cannot be distinguished by rule.
