A radical question (Posted on 2015-07-08) Difficulty: 2 of 5
What "holiday" is celebrated by eating root vegetables cut into shapes with square cross-sections?

How many days like that are there within a century?

There are nine square root days each century:
01/01/xx01 : January 1st for the (12) first year
02/02/xx04 : February 2nd for the (22) fourth year
03/03/xx09 : March 3rd for the (32) ninth year
04/04/xx16 : April 4rd for the (42) sixteenth year
05/05/xx25 : May 5th for the (52) twenty-fifth year
06/06/xx36 : June 6th for the (62) thirty-sixth year
07/07/xx49 : July 7th for the (72) forty-ninth year
08/08/xx64 : August 8th for the (82) sixty-fourth year
09/09/xx81 : September 9th for (92) the eighty-first year

As the day and month are based upon the (perfect) square root of the two-digit year, no square root day is observed in the last three months of a year. The first square root day was observed 09/09/1981, thus the unofficial holiday has been observed only four times as yet.
