Two sums of digits (Posted on 2017-09-02) Difficulty: 2 of 5
asd+fgh=jkl

Believe me - there are numerous solutions of the above alphametic.

I. What is the minimal possible sum of participating digits?
ii. Same question for as+df=gh

When I looked at this earlier I misread part 2 as adding the second condition to the part 1.  The combined alphametic system still has multiple solutions, such as 162+743=905 and 16+27=43.  I don't know how many total solutions exist.
