Moo-ing along (Posted on 2004-09-03) Difficulty: 1 of 5
In five days, four black cows and three brown cows give as much milk, as five brown cows and three black cows would give in four days.

Which color cows are the best milk producers?

Let's call K the amount a blacK cow gives in a day, and N the amount a browN cow gives in the same time.

We can write (4K+3N)x5=(5N+3K)x4, so 20K+15N = 12K+20N. If we "lose" 8 black cows, we need only 5 brown cows to replace them, so the latter are the best producers.
