L.A. to Hawaii (Posted on 2005-06-17) Difficulty: 3 of 5
It is about 2244.5 nautical miles from Los Angeles, CA to Honolulu, HI. A boat starts from being at rest in Los Angeles Harbor and proceeds at 1 knot per hour to Honolulu. How long does it take?

Solution: (Hide)
1 knot = 1 nautical mile per hour, so 1 knot per hour is an acceleration of 1 nmi per hour per hour.

2244.5 = (at^2)/2 with t = 67 hours.
