What is the next number in the following series :

5, 20, 24, 6, 2, 8, ?

Solution: (Hide)
The sequence is found by, starting with 5, multiply, add, divide, and subtract 4 in that order:
5 × 4 = 20
20 + 4 = 24
24 ÷ 4 = 6
6 - 4 = 2
2 × 4 = 8
8 + 4 = 12
12 ÷ 4 = 3
3 - 4 = -1
-1 × 4 = -4
...
So, the next number in the sequence is 8.
