Change O & X's Winner (Posted on 2008-07-22) Difficulty: 2 of 5
In a game of "Noughts and Crosses" between two novice players the X player had the first move and won.

If the player of O had been first can you suggest how to replace the winning X with an O to show the new on-screen winner?

Oh! Having found the solution, might you somewhat cryptically make reference to the "key" without saying directly how you actually arrived at it?

I could be criticised for my choice of category as this does resort to a 'trick'. To suggest that category would have ensured a 'dead give-away'. 'Games' didn't quite seem right either. 'General' was more embracing.

Unlike many places around the internet Perplexus does not underline URL links but the link is shown in blue colouring.

For this to work the link had to be "hidden", well ... disguised, which was relatively simple. Assuming people might look for such a link, several locations within the text were marked with the HTML attribute tag "title" to offer "advice" as to the value of a 'mouse-over' search.

A simple* javascript technique activates a program which swaps two images when the mouse passes over the link. That link is the word 'first' in the second paragraph which responds with the change of images and a message of "Bingo!"

* simple is simple such, yes I know. Those conversant with the technique will find my utilisation by viewing the Page Source. I do intend to post something in Forums later.

Within the publication timeframe levik shared thoughts which were productive.
