Who's the odd one out? (Posted on 2004-04-10) Difficulty: 2 of 5
Of the words listed below, one is "odd man out." This has nothing to do with the number of vowels, consonants or syllables. Can you find the misfit?

LUMP REAM SAGA PALM

There are many possibilities for this.

PALM could be the odd one out as is is the only one that cannot be used as a collective.

REAM could be the odd one out for two reasons.
1. It has no decenders when written in lower-case. (note that the title of this problem also has no decenders, a very obscure clue...)
2. It's the only one who, when letters are transformed to numbers (a=1, b=2, ...) the sum is odd.

SAGA could be the odd one out for two reasons.
1. It's the only word that cannot be used as a verb as well as a noun.
2. It's the only word that cannot be anagrammed into another word, such as PLUM, MARE and LAMP.

There may be others. See what you can come up with.
